SEMH Teaching Assistant

The Role We are looking for a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to work in a school in the Trafford area. This role focuses on supporting pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them engage with their education and flourish in a school setting. Working closely with teachers and pastoral teams, you’ll provide tailored support to make a meaningful difference in young lives. This is a full-time role. Key Responsibilities Deliver one-to-one and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them manage emotions and behaviour Assist in implementing strategies to promote positive engagement and emotional well-being in the classroom Support teachers with lesson delivery and classroom management for pupils with challenging behaviours Act as a calming and encouraging presence, building trust and confidence with pupils Collaborate with school staff to follow individual behaviour and education plans effectively Record observations and progress, providing feedback to teachers and SENCOs as required What we are looking for Experience or understanding of supporting children with SEMH needs in an educational or care setting Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect with pupils and staff A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach, with the ability to handle challenging situations calmly Ideally a background working with young people (not mandatory but advantageous) If you have a background in any of the following areas then please apply: Youth Work, Army, Police, Sports, Psychology or anything creative such as Art or Music.
